Private tours from Flamingo Marina Costa Rica

Book your Sailing charter from the new Flamingo Marina, Costa Rica

Flamingo Marina is the top marina in Guanacaste, the northernmost province of Guanacaste. With a  capacity of over 190 slips, the recently remodeled marina offers several services, including restaurants, hotels, convention centers and much more. The Marina is strategically located amid the best highlights and attractions in Guanacaste, and is also a great point from where sport fishing adventures and sailing tours  depart.

While the Marina was built in the 70s, it was abandoned for several years. In 2022, the Marina opens again with an investment of several million dollars, turning it into the best marina in Costa Rica.

A dream come true for the Flamingo community is approaching, and it is in March 2018 when the project will start construction, after more than a decade of waiting for the Marina.

Federico A. Marín Schumacher, President of the Flamingo Development Board in an interview with Periódico Mensaje emphasized that it is an essential element for the survival of the businesses in the area and finally the efforts have given good results.

They are waiting for the concession to be approved so that Marina Flamingo Depelovment Group, the developer of the project, can submit the construction plans for approval by the Engineers and Architects Federate College, a process that will take about three months.

According to Marín, it is estimated that the project will take 23 months to build. Obtaining the environmental permit for this project was key, the most difficult in terms of requirements and is a big step to finally build the Marina.

This project would be built in a 189,000 square meter space next to the Coast Guard and will offer 209 boats with capacity for yachts up to 130 feet, service station, dry dock, a boutique hotel, a convention center with a capacity for 800 people, commercial area for restaurants, bars, etc.

There will also be another place for artists and artisans, where they can exhibit their products, as part of the experience that the Marina will offer to tourists.

The project has a cost of more than $30 million, following a concession granted by the Municipality of Santa Cruz for 35 years.

This project had been stalled since the government closed the previous marina in 2004 by order of the Environmental Administrative Court after much controversy because the proper environmental impact study was not carried out and there were reports of contamination.

Marín pointed out that there is already an agreement signed with the INA for this Marina project, where two classrooms will be provided and they will maintain continuous programs of English, hotel management, cooking, captain, etc.

Marín assured that they should continue joining efforts for other projects linked to this one, among the most important is the completion of the asphalting of the road from Playa Potrero to Nueva Colón, that would open an important tourist corridor between Playas del Coco, Hermosa, Papagayo, Flamingo, Tamarindo.
